Understanding Zyban side effects
GlaxoSmithKline’s Zyban is a popular drug used
for helping people who have problems on quitting the habit smoking.
Its generic name is
bupropion hydrochloride, the same main component for Wellbutrin SR
and Wellbutrin FX. The latter is not to be confused with Zyban in
terms of what they are used for. Wellbutrin, in general, is used as
an antidepressant and sometimes as treatment for obesity. Other
therapeutic indications include prevention of seasonal affective
disorder, sexual dysfunction, and adult ADHD.
Zyban side effects
are an important consideration,
which should be discussed well with your physicians when planning to
take the drug.

It was discovered by Nariman
Mehta in 1969 and was initially released in the market as the
antidepressant mentioned earlier with the trade name Wellbutrine.
Adverse side effects included seizures so that it had to be pulled
out from the market for further modifications. It was later resold
as Wellbutrin SR, taking in a suppressed release action to be able
to regulate the entire dose over a stretch of several hours instead
of having the entire dose work right there and then. The Food and
Drug Administration approved of its second release into the market,
and later on a third release was made under the trade name Zyban
whose dosages has been modified for a smoking cessation aid
indication.
Zyban side effects
are well discussed in most
sites so that patients who plan to seek aid for smoking cessation
will be well aware of the drug’s capabilities.
The most common
Zyban side effects
are insomnia and dry mouth.
However, some cases include headache, nausea, vomiting, rhinitis,
dream abnormality, and occasional abdominal pain.
Zyban side effects,
upon discontinuation of
treatment, include skin disorders and rashes, nervous system
disturbances and tremors.
A thorough
examination and consultation with your physcian should not be missed
prior to taking the drug. This is to ensure that you are well aware
of all the effects the drug will have on you.
